Learn to prepare taxes and make a difference at the same time.
You can prepare taxes free of charge for members of your community in need of assistance by becoming a volunteer with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.
You will receive IRS certified training to provide free tax help for elderly and low-to-moderate income individuals and families. Over 30 locally trained volunteers said yes to making a difference during the past tax filing season and prepared over eight hundred federal and state returns at our local New Bern and Pamlico sites.
Your reward is knowing that you have provided a much appreciated service to a segment of our population that needs help with preparing their income taxes.
Don’t know that much about taxes? Don’t worry — you’ll get specialized training or you can choose a volunteer role that doesn’t require tax law certification.
Volunteers are needed for Greeters, Tax Preparers, and Computer Specialists. The hours are flexible, the training is free and the time commitment is up to you.
If you volunteer, you will work with the dedicated team of the New Bern VITA organization in historic downtown New Bern or at our site at the Alliance Senior Center in Pamlico County. Orientation will be held Dec. 4, 2018. To volunteer, to get more information, or the orientation location, submit your contact information by calling 252-772-5245.
Submit your inquiry now and become a VITA volunteer! It’s a rewarding way to give back to your community.
