Start humming your favorite Christmas carols and plan to attend Tryon Palace’s Holiday Cheer event in commemoration of its 250th Anniversary.
During two Saturdays in December, the 12th and 19th, Tryon Palace will open its wreathed gates for tours of the decorated Palace and joyous festivities that will delight both young and old.
The Palace’s front lawn will come alive with historical re-enactments, musicians, dancers, entertainment and holiday shopping, to be enjoyed while sipping on hot cocoa or your favorite adult beverage.
Tours of the Palace’s first floor draped in ribbons, wreaths, fruit and floral décor, traditional of an eighteenth-century Christmas holiday, will be available. The Palace gates will open at 4:30 p.m. for Holiday Cheer, closing at 9:30 p.m. with an uplifting display of black powder fireworks.
Tickets for attending Holiday Cheer are on sale now. Lawn tickets for entry to all festivities on the Palace grounds without a tour are $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 6 to 14 years.
For entry with a reserved tour of the decorated Palace, adult tickets are $15 and children are $8.
Tours of the Palace are available every fifteen minutes and capacity is limited, so it is important to purchase your ticket in advance and arrive timely.
Holiday Cheer will open with a ceremonial Fife and Drum presentation at the front gate. Jonkonnu performances will alternate throughout the afternoon with additional Fife and Drum performances. Circus performers, jugglers and more can be enjoyed on the front lawn.
Two food trucks will offer savory meals just outside the gates.
On site, the Museum Store will offer tempting holiday gifts, a hot chocolate bar, coffee, hot cider and snacks for purchase. Brutopia, a favorite local brewery, will offer a variety of flavorful handcrafted brews and wines for purchase.
For decades, Tryon Palace’s annual Candlelight Christmas in December has been one of the Palace’s most beloved events of the year.
Determined not to disappoint their guests with yet another cancelled event from the pandemic, the Palace’s traditional Candlelight has been modified to Holiday Cheer and will meet all NC State safety guidelines under Phase 3.
This year’s Holiday Cheer celebrates Tryon Palace’s 250th Anniversary and will offer holiday revelers a chance to experience the magic and spirit of Christmas and the New Year with a safe and fun family event.
Save the dates, reserve your Palace Tour and join us for Holiday Cheer on December 12th and 19th, when Tryon Palace decks its halls in celebration of the season to be jolly. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.tryonpalace.org, or at the North Carolina History Center’s Ticket Desk.
Entry to the event is through the Palace’s front gates at George and Pollock streets. For those wishing to give back this season, Tryon Palace will have designated Toys for Tots drop-off boxes on site during the events. Holiday Cheer is supported in part by First Citizens Bank, Hyundai of New Bern and Persimmons.
