The Cooper family became owners of The Meadows Inn Bed & Breakfast on March 20, 2020. March 2020 is a historically significant month. That was when COVID-19 arrived and New Bern shut down.

“We made a lot of lemonade from lemons,” said Linda Cooper, owner and innkeeper. “We used the COVID lockdown period to do a lot of renovation and freshened the décor.”
The décor is a mix of what was there and additional pieces that were acquired from her travels around the world. Linda loves people and enjoys giving them an exceptional experience.
Operating a B&B gives her an opportunity to give each guest a special experience.
She loves it when someone walks in and says, “Oh, this is lovely!” or enjoys breakfast and says, “This is good!”
“I just conquered scones,” she said recently. A British guest had requested them.
Some of her culinary successes include Crab Quiche, Apple Pie French Toast, and Parfaits made with fresh fruit and a cream cheese mixture.
She prefers to offer guests local specialties including Nautical Star Coffee and Staat’s Bakery Gourmet Granola.
Once the lockdown was lifted, guests were anxious to travel safely. The Meadows Inn with 7 rooms offers that opportunity. So far, the Inn has hosted an elopement, multiple birthdays, several “just married” couples and a bridal parties preparing for the big day. The third floor is perfectly laid out for a bridal party or family to take over.
The house was built in 1847 and was originally a 2-over-2 layout until the mansard roof and additional rooms were added in 1895. When you walk into the Inn, you will see an inviting “gathering room” and dining room. The Gathering Room has even hosted Dallas Cowboy fans for game day! All of the bedrooms are bright and happy with new beds and linens. You can even see the Neuse River from the third floor!
Linda Cooper loved her previous career in fashion buying and merchandising. It was a career she prepared for since she was a young girl, and that career nourished her spirit until 2018, when she started researching B&Bs. After traveling through many other areas and looking at many other B&Bs, she found New Bern and The Meadows Inn.
“You just fall in love with New Bern,” Cooper said. “The people are nice, the town is adorable, and there is so much to do.”
She said that the other B&B owners on Pollock Street have been so welcoming and helpful of her endeavor that she knew she made the right decision!
