At the beginning of the school year, Jesse James transitioned from classroom teacher to District Beginning Teacher Mentor.

He joins the Beginning Teacher Mentor Team consisting of Necia Swain, Staci Spear, and Taejon Owens. This team provides support, professional development, and resources to our newest educators.

James is beginning his 14th year with Craven County Schools. He started his career with Craven County Schools as a tutor at J.T. Barber Elementary School before joining the Warcubs of H.J. MacDonald Middle School where he taught 6th and 8th grade ELA/SS.

In 2018, James was named Teacher of the Year for H.J. MacDonald Middle School.

Jesse said he is excited to transition into his role as a District Beginning Teacher Mentor and work with the future of the teaching profession. He said he hopes to make a positive impact on the teachers who he works with.

James married to Jessie James, Clinical Manager at New Bern Family Practice, Urgent Care, and Extended Care, and father of two boys.
