Peacock’s Plume is an upscale boutique located downtown that prides itself on its unique customer service and working alongside the community.
For the many years they have been in business, Peacock’s Plume has always been noticed for delivering “the best possible shopping experience for our loyal customer base, who can always trust us,” says owner Robyn Johnston. She and her team want every customer to always leave feeling their best.
You’ll find clothing and shoes in all price ranges and all sizes in her shop.
“It’s nice to have choices,” Johnston says. “It gives people something to look forward to.”

After years in the business, “There’s one thing that never changes,” Johnston said. “The customers are what make our clothing look pretty. When people feel good wearing our styles, that’s what makes them stand out and shine.”
Johnston is an ECU alumna following her life-long dream of having her store.
She started at South Front Street and has since expanded into an inviting 3,000-square-foot store on the corner of Craven and Pollock street in Downtown New Bern, offering clothes and accessories that you would expect to find in New York City’s trendiest boutiques.
When shopping small, you gain a personal connection from Johnston and her employees.
“While our customers enjoy shopping, it is our treat to pick out a few extra looks to add to their fitting room that they may have not picked themselves. We always love to see their smiles when they check out and thank us for allowing them to step out of their comfort zone and helping find new prizes,” says Johnston.
Her selection ranges to fit every part of your lifestyle, from day-to-day looks and special occasions. She prides herself in guaranteeing each customer’s needs are met, actively following the latest trends and demands.
“When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, we transitioned and brought in new lines, styles and necessities for our customers’ needs,” Johnston said. “While our doors are open, we also added private styling, curb pick-up, look boxes and shipping services to bring the Plume experience to your home.”
Peacock’s Plume works closely with the community and proudly supports several local non-profits. Two that are near to Johnston’s heart are RCS (Religious Community Services) and the Coastal Women’s Shelter. Both organizations help people in our community, and supporting local has always been a passion of Johnston’s.
