A New Bern skilled nursing and rehabilitation center where an outbreak of COVID-19 has broken out added 10 new cases over the last two days.

PruittHealth-Trent, located at 836 Hospital Drive (across the street from CarolinaEast Medical Center), now has 14 staff members and 28 patients infected with the highly contagious virus.

The facility is licensed for 116 beds; the number of beds that are actually occupied has not been reported. Whether the beds are full or not, the 28 patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 account for 24 percent of the facility’s total capacity.

The elderly and people with preexisting conditions are especially vulnerable to the virus, and all eight deaths in Craven County fall into one or both of those categories.

The number of hospitalized cases in Craven County increased from five on Tuesday to seven on Friday.

  1. I’m sure you unfortunately appreciate the irony of being tested positive: you were/are the best source of news on the virus in craven county. Heal quickly. If it’s any comfort, my 41 year old son and his wife got it ( miserably) about a month ago. They seem to be fully recovered and active again.
