Prepare a kit: Preparing a kit is very important in making sure you have the items needed to weather any storm. As Tropical Storm Isaias approaches, this time is more important than ever to make sure you have the items needed.

Your kit should contain the following:

Water — 1 gallon per person per day for three to seven days
Food — non-perishable and canned food supply for three to seven days
• Battery-powered or hand-crank radio and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather radio with extra batteries
• Cell phone with charger
• First aid kit and first aid book
• Flashlight and extra batteries
• Manual can opener for food
• Wrench or pliers to turn off water
• Blanket or sleeping bag — one per person
• Prescription medications and glasses
• Seasonal change of clothing, including sturdy shoes
• Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and feminine supplies
• Extra house and car keys
• Important documents — insurance policies, copy of driver’s license, Social Security card and bank account records
• Fire extinguisher
• Cash and coin change
• Books, games or cards
• To prevent the spread of COVID-19, these items should be added to your kit: face coverings/masks, hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes

Disaster Sheltering: The Centers for Disease Control, American Red Cross and N.C. Emergency Management have discouraged the use of congregate sheltering. All residence strongly encouraged to make arrangements to stay with family of friends and/or a hotel out of danger during this pandemic.

If a disaster shelter is open, the option of staying at any shelter should be the last resort. Be prepared to exercise COVID-19 precautions before and during the stay. If a disaster shelter is your last resort, please bring the following:
• A cloth face covering/mask
• Bedding for all household members (Cots will not be provided before landfall of the storm)
• Three-day supply of nonperishable food and water
• Flashlights/batteries
• Medications
• Pet needs (a pet shelter will be provided only for residents staying in shelter)
• Hand sanitizer/wipes
• Any other items you may need for comfort
