A Craven County resident died today (Friday, Aug. 21. 2020) from complications related to COVID-19, the 23rd in the county since the virus first emerged here in mid-March.

The individual was tested for COVID-19 on Aug. 20, 2020, and resulted positive on the day the person died. The individual had several underlying health conditions. To protect the family’s privacy, no further information will be released by the Craven County Health Department.

Craven County has 907 confirmed COVID-19 cases, having added just over 100 cases in seven days.

Out of the 907 cases, 666 have recovered and are out of isolation.

Of the 907 cases, 12 were related to out-of-state travel, 161 were transmitted by unknown sources from the community, 621 are from direct contact with other known cases, and 113 are being investigated.

Ten are hospitalized as of Friday.
