An unidentified Craven County resident with underlying health conditions died today (Sept. 11, 2020) of complications related to COVID-19, the Craven County Health Department said.
The person was tested on Sept. 10 and results showed positive for COVID-19 the same day. The person died the next day.
No further information about the individual will be released to protect the family’s privacy, the Health Department said.
It was the second death this week from the virus, and third in September. August has been the deadliest month in Craven County, with 17 deaths.
The number of lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases reached 1,234 as of 11 a.m. today, adding 24 cases in 24 hours.
There are 246 active cases — the highest number of active cases for Craven County since the first case was detected in the county in mid-March.
The previous high was 237 cases on Aug. 23.
The number of recovered cases is 958. A case is considered recovered when a patient has been in isolation and symptom-free for 24 hours.
Craven County COVID-19 cases have spread primarily from direct contact with people previously known to have the virus, at a total of 829 cases. Another 218 cases were contracted within the community but from unknown sources.
Contact tracers are investigating 113 cases, and another 59 have been categorized as unknown source.
