The COVID-19 death toll at New Bern-area nursing homes has reached 38, 18 of which have been reported at facilities where outbreaks are still active, according to statistics from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
Active outbreaks include Bayview Nursing & Rehabilitation, where 9 patients have died of COVID-19-related causes.
Bayview is registered as having 72 beds, with 50 residents testing positive for the virus. Staff there was also hit hard, with 34 cases.
Smaller outbreaks are reported as still active at Riverpoint Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (17 staff, 38 residents, 3 resident deaths), Courtyards at Berne Village (6 staff, 7 residents, 3 resident deaths), Croatan Village Assisted Living Facility (6 staff, 7 residents, 3 resident deaths), and RHA Howell Longterm Care Facility in River Bend (7 staff, 8 residents, no deaths).
The North Carolina Department of Public Safety reported that an outbreak at Craven Correctional Institution near Vanceboro is still active and is up to 161 cases.
Craven County passed the 2,000 mark for cases since the pandemic first emerged here in mid-March. There were 2,009 cases as of around noon Friday, with 50 deaths, according to the Craven County Health Department.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reports a different number of cases for Craven County: 2,115. The state and county agencies have reported different numbers throughout the pandemic.
Pamlico County has had 300 lab-confirmed cases with 2 deaths. Of those cases, 104 were reported at Pamlico Correctional Institution near Bayboro.
In Pamlico County, Grantsbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grantsboro has 3 staff and 14 residents with the virus.
Jones County has had 173 lab-confirmed cases with 15 deaths, of which Brook Stone Living Center in Pollocksville accounted for 71 cases and 11 deaths. That outbreak is no longer active.
