Two additional Craven County residents have died from complications related to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the county’s total to 12 deaths from the highly virulent virus.

An eleventh Craven County resident died on August 4, 2020.  The individual was tested for COVID-19 on July 23, 2020 and resulted positive on July 27, 2020.  The death was reported to the Craven County Health Department on August 5, 2020.

The twelfth Craven County resident died on August 5, 2020. The individual was tested for COVID-19 on July 10, 2020 and resulted positive on July 12, 2020.  The death was reported to the Craven County Health Department on August 6, 2020.

Both individuals had several underlying health conditions. To protect the privacy of each individual’s family, no further information about the individuals will be released.

However, one of the deaths stemmed from an outbreak at PruittHealth-Trent, a skilled nursing facility in New Bern where there has been a large outbreak of COVID-19 among staff and patients over the past three weeks. This week’s death brings the total deaths from PruittHealth-Trent to two. There have been four new cases of COVID-19 at the facility since Friday, two among staff and two among patients.

COVID-19 cases at three other skilled nursing facilities in Craven County have not changed.

Craven County has 714 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of 11:30 a.m. on August 6, 2020. It was an increase of 19 cases over the previous 24 hours.

Out of the 714 confirmed positive cases, 515 of those individuals have recovered, are doing well, and are out of isolation. The recovered cases completed the necessary isolation requirement and have been free of COVID-19 symptoms for at least 72 hours.

Of the 714 cases, 12 have been related to out-of-state travel, 148 are from community transmission, 509 are a direct contact with a previously confirmed positive case, and 45 are still being investigated.

Seven of the active COVID-19 cases are currently hospitalized.
